My comment on Saunders Penn's presentation:
"Saunders, after watching your presentation on David Hurn, I have an excellent understanding of his photography journey. I loved your explanation of his photographic style being mainly black-and-white. I did my presentation on Sally Mann, who also captured moments without color as well. Your interpretation of the first photo of his works is excellent; I completely agree with the fact that the head-on perspective allows the viewer to get involved in the moment. Your description of each photo and how it made you feel was also very informative in learning more about Hurn."

Keira, your presentation on Mann's photography journey and career was great. It gave me a deep understanding of her style and what she aims to accomplish with her photos. As you said in your video her use of primarily black and white style really helps me focus on the content of the photos. As well, I noticed in her B&W photos featuring people, her choice to make them black and white brings out the raw emotion of the subjects and helps her photos work theoretically and lets me wonder what is going on in those people minds. Similarly, my artist, David Goldblatt, primarily used B&W to help bring out the raw emotion of his subjects in a different fashion and medium.…
Hi Kiera,
This was honestly an amazing presentation. You seemed very well informed about Sally Mann and her photography. You gave a very informative description and analysis for the photographs and covered so much more than I would have been able to gather without your explanations. Like Ritu Patel also commented, with my photographer being William Eggleston's focus being color photography, it was very interesting to see how black and white images can be dissected differently and which photography methods became the focal point. Overall I think you did an amazing job and your presentation gave me new insight about how I will take photographs in the future!
Hi Keira,
After watching your video presentation I learned a lot about what you had to say about Sally Mann's photography. I love how you chose someone who does black and white because I think that you can tell a story just from black and white. All the photos that you talked about represent the photographer in a great way which makes me understand it better. From looking at the photos that you have chosen, they all give a different but beautiful story of what is going on. Overall, I think that choosing Sally Mann was a great person to do your presentation about!

Hi Keria,
I think you did a great job on this presentation on Sally Mann. Your interpretation of each photogragh shows that you understand all the topics we have learned so far as well as understand what Mann is trying to portray. My artist is Steve McCurry who's distinct feature is his use of color in his work. So it was really intersting to see and learn more about Sally Mann's work as she focuses on the complete opposite, black and white. I like how even in black and white images the photograph is able to tell a story. Mann's work makes me feel some sort of imtimacy and nostalgia. Even though Mann's work is beautiful, I personally will probably…
Keira,
This is a very informative review of Sally Mann's work. Out of each series of imagery you spoke about, the Lewis Law Portfolio really stuck out to me; the images are super unique and definitley interpretive. I feel like the longer I looked at these photos, the more I noticed and there was something simply appealing about them. I definitley agree that Mann's work captures something other than the beauty of nature or architecture, and rather the beauty of people and their everyday life.
